Urban Courtyard

Urban Courtyard transforms a neglected city centre space into a verdant oasis that serves the surrounding community. The design responds to the challenging urban microclimate while creating a rich, biodiverse environment that changes with the seasons.

Working within tight constraints, we developed a layered planting strategy that maximises greenery at every level—from ground cover perennials to climbing plants that soften the surrounding walls. Native and climate-adapted species were selected for their resilience and ecological value.

The hardscape combines reclaimed materials with contemporary detailing, creating spaces for gathering, contemplation, and play. Integrated seating, subtle lighting, and water features enhance the sensory experience while sustainable drainage systems manage rainwater on site.
