Sustainable
The Glass Pavilion
The Glass Pavilion is a net-zero extension to a Victorian villa, demonstrating that ambitious sustainability targets can be achieved without compromising architectural ambition. The project seamlessly connects the historic house to its garden while providing flexible living space for a growing family.
The structure pushes the limits of glazing technology, with high-performance triple glazing and automated shading systems that respond to changing conditions. A ground-source heat pump, solar panels, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery work together to achieve exceptional energy performance.
Despite its transparency, the pavilion offers a sense of enclosure and warmth. The timber structure, exposed internally, creates a rhythmic quality that provides visual interest and a connection to natural materials. Carefully positioned solid elements ensure privacy where needed while framing views of the mature garden beyond.
